The Master Carpenter oversees the carpentry crew, planning and constructing visual elements in collaboration with the construction coordinator and art department. They coordinate with master painters and plasterers to achieve desired finishes. Pre-production involves working with the director, designer, and art department to plan carpentry elements via technical drawings. They create schedules, determine crew size, and assemble a skilled team. Material quantification and timely delivery are crucial to uninterrupted progress. Ensuring a safe work environment across sets, workshops, and locations is paramount.
Duties and responsibilities
- Proficiently supervise and lead the carpentry team, coordinating closely with the construction coordinator and art department to execute scenic elements.
- Collaborate with master painters and plasterers to achieve desired finishes and aesthetics.
- Plan and strategize carpentry elements in pre-production alongside the director, designer, and art department, utilizing technical drawings.
- Develop and maintain schedules, determine crew requirements, and assemble a skilled team to ensure efficient project execution.
- Accurately assess material needs, manage sourcing, and ensure timely delivery to sustain workflow momentum.
